We LOVE hearing from our customers! Sara Mackenzie, MD (Fall City, WA) sent us this assessment of her horse’s hoof health.
I wanted to tell you how happy I am that we discussed potential nutritional deficiencies that might be playing a role with Rocky’s feet. As you are aware, I have been treating his feet essentially daily for almost 2 years due to the fact that his frogs (on all four feet) have been severely friable, cracked, and lacking in any healthy tissue. He has been unable to work due to pain for two years. I have had several vets and farriers evaluating him over this period and I have tried MANY daily topical treatments, oral antibiotics, oral steroids and the like. While no one would use the diagnosis of canker, it certainly seemed like it to me. After we talked in September, I started him on Equis Daily 35 Supplement. I also started trying one more topical antibiotic combination (tetracycline and metronidazole) – I used it for two weeks and am now using very intermittently. I had previously tried topical metronidazole with limited success and certainly no sustained success.

I really think the Daily 35 has made an amazing difference. He actually has some substance to his frogs at this point and he no longer almost drops to the ground from pain when I clean his feet out each night. For the first time, I am not needing to medicate his feet daily in addition to cleaning them. I am not sure what component of Equis Daily 35 has made the difference – we had discussed selenium being critical to skin tissue but I know there are also other minerals and things included in Daily 35. I have actually started riding him under saddle again for the first time in 2 years. We will take it slowly and I will keep up my daily hoof cleaning but I am going to try to taper off on topical medications as (I hope) his frogs continue to improve. Thanks again!

Equis Daily 35% Supplement is a pelleted ration balancer meant to compliment local grass hays of poor to moderate quality. It’s meant to be fed at 1-2 lbs per day for the average 1100 lbs horse. When feeding harder keepers add your own preferred energy source such as rice bran, alfalfa pellets or oats with the Daily 35%. When feeding easy keepers no additional products are recommended.
