Equis Feeds is proud to introduce Chelsea Carlson as a 2015 rider for the brand! Chelsea, owner of Red’s Show Horses, competes extensively in the American Quarter Horse industry based out of the beautiful New Hope Ranch owned by Wayne and Anna Cordeiro. With the help of her mother, Jennifer, who acts as Red’s Show Horses business and barn manager, the team has set impressive goals for 2015. Chelsea and her clients are excited to bring home regional titles from the June OQHA Oregon Summer Classic in Medford as well as the Septemeber NW Emerald in Monroe, WA. But, their competitive goals do not stop at the regional boundary. Chelsea will present many competitive horses and clients at the AZ Fall Championship, the AQHA Novice Championships in Vegas, and then the All American Quarter Horse Congress in October.
I visited the farm west of Eugene one idealic spring evening to better aquaint myself with the mother-daughter team, meet the horses, and answer questions about their feeding regime. Red’s Show Horses barn is full of stunning Quarter Horse athletes! The horses have been on Equis Daily 35% Supplement for several months, and they looked fabulous. Just look at He’s For Certain, aka Danny, a five year old gelding owned by Clare Swanson- an All Around Youth client. Danny’s body condition was just right for starting off a busy show season, his coat shined, and his eyes and ears were alert but relaxed. As an Equine Nutrition Consultant, what struck me the most during my April visit were the details in their feeding program.
The farm’s success is due in part to how well they manage their hay options (2nd cutting alfalfa and local grass hay), Equis Feed products, and additional supplements; using each product for it’s correct purpose in the proper amount! I recommended only a few minor tweaks to their feeding regime to save time and cost. And of course, I love seeing slow feeders in a show barn. I really want to compliment the team for their diligent research and excellent application of current feeding principles. Their passion for good nutrition was evident when Jennifer described how she writes up feed prescriptions for their clients’ horses. When the horses leave, she locates the closest Equis Feed dealer for her clients, prints out the store and product information, and sends it all with the horse knowing that their feed program will be well balanced.
We look forward to following this dynamic training barn on their way to several prestigious regional and national AQHA shows. To follow Chelsea or to find more information visit Red’s Show Horses on Facebook or on Instagram #teamred2015 or #redsshowhorses. Thanks for your support ladies!
